Gaia Palmisano, vivere in transizione!

By Gaia Palmisano,

5. E quando me ne vado?

Tips for moving low cost and car-

Here we go again , in a few days we will leave for Freiburg tornarcene in Bolzano, and this time it seems that it will be the final one, at least for a few years !

Over the past three years we have lived like modern nomads, constantly moving between Italy and Germany , always looking for alternative and sustainable living practices , of different ways of working that would leave us space to live our family and our personal desires.

I can say that in all this wandering , we have become very experienced in the art of moving . Our removals are now at zero cost , and, without ‘ car .

We started six months ago with two suitcases and a stroller, with a bus line , confident of finding in a short time what we would need in order to live the last six months in Freiburg.

1 . The search of the house: one thing that we’re very interested in the months we spend abroad , you will find replicable in other places in our country . In short, from global to local ! | We’re interested especially experiences of community life or sharing , as may be living in a cohousing in the city. Before leaving, we always inform you in relation to ongoing projects in the places where we are migrating and we direct contact with them. Here in Freiburg we lived in a cohousing prgoetto which is part of the network Miethauesersyndikat , which connects several housing projects throughout Germany . We learned a lot about how you can finance in a cooperative and inclusive the purchase of a building, and for this we must thank the project im Gruen 8 for welcoming us .

2 . The research of the furniture : I think that the objects tell stories , the stories of those who lived them and used. I do not feel the need to have new things to decorate my home, but much more like the objects they live, they can be used and continue to have a use by passing from hand to hand . Regarding the furniture, the most comfortable thing is definitely detect the previous tenant , if we are in a rented house. This saves us from laborious transport and assembly . And if the previous tenant has not our style , with a little ‘ of color and creativity, you can always fix it.

3 . Household utensils : If you have moved with two suitcases , definitely miss the call objects such as corkscrews, drying racks, trays … : The first flea market you can get everything you need at a very low price. In addition, in many German cities and even now in some Italian , there are free shopsv , ie the places where you can get free items and clothes. Who wants to get rid of its objects and brings them people who need them take them . It ‘ a beautiful process of collectivization ( commoning ) resource ! There are so many objects on the ground that I wonder why we continue to produce ! Also for those who use the internet and social media , you can search for a local group to share and care , that is a gift of items ( clothes , tools, furniture) . There are also numerous online portals , just look a bit ‘ . In Italy, for example, there are groups “I will gift if you come to pick him up ,” or there is a Freecycle network , which allows you to donate through the mailing list or search for objects

4 . Clothing : for clothes the same applies as above , namely, flea market, gift and … swap party . These moments of sharing , where a party atmosphere you can privately exchange clothes. We are also organized in Italy . As for the clothes, however, move mean for me also implement a reflection on the needs : ” what do I really need? ” . With Michael , my partner , we have now adopted the rule of three , three sweaters , three pairs of pants , and so on … at least to start. I also know from experience that the clothes pile up quickly !

5 . And when I’m gone ? Leave a place and an apartment for me at the same time a sad moment and celebration. The house begins to empty and creates an atmosphere for camping , where everything is a bit ‘ in the air. When I go to a place, I assure you that objects can find a new life, to avoid having to dispose of polluting materials that have created an ecological footprint in the process of production, sale, use. Some things I sell, many of the gift. In those days there was a bustle of people who came to take beds , lamps, tables . There was a picture with two naked angels , belonged to the lady who lived before us in the apartment. We did not like , and we had locked in a closet . Yesterday a guy came to pick him up , he was very happy, will be a gift for her mom ! A couple of guys just moved in together , even their movers on foot, was carried off a shelf , a Chinese girl born in Australia , because here in Freiburg musician , will sleep in our bed , while armchair and sofa are also migrated to their standing in the room of a colleague.

The objects we tell stories and share in the broad sense is something that always makes me happy and makes me still have faith in human beings !
